Here at Odyssey Early College High School I’m a lot of things: a student, a friend, a club leader, and I am now proud to call myself a journalist. Our school is unique in many ways, our journalism class being no exception, so I’m honored to be a part of the team. Although our group only recently came together I can already tell we’re going to create something together that people won’t want to miss, and if we do our jobs right, I’m sure we’ll stir up some trouble along the way. Storytelling is a passion of mine, so getting a chance to seek out hidden stories and new angles is a really exciting opportunity. On that note, I would say my main goal in journalism is simply to see the world as it is in all its imperfect glory, and to share a slice of that view with everyone who’s willing to see things differently. A couple summers ago, I got the chance to visit an ancient cathedral with a particularly beautiful gateway. When I asked about how it was built, I was told that the key to every great archway is it’s cornerstone; a wedge of rock that all the other bricks lean against. In Journalism, I believe that we are meant to be the archway to truth. Our teacher Mrs. Banfield being our cornerstone for each of us to lean upon. I can’t wait to see what comes our way.
