Arely-Amor Lozano, Production manager

I joined journalism because I wanted to build my leadership skills. I felt that journalism would be a great place to start, especially since it is such a great and caring environment. As a production manager, I am responsible for making sure everyone is meeting deadlines. This position is difficult, especially when staff don’t respect you. However, everyone in journalism is friendly and understanding, which makes being a leader more fun and enjoyable. Journalism is like a family, which I truly wasn’t expecting when I joined. Having these relationships are critical, especially for those in leadership positions since we all respect each other’s decisions. I really like how in journalism, you can work your way up in leadership positions and even choose what position you want. Journalism is a great class to build your skills, and everyone will help you strengthen your weaknesses. I joined journalism to build my leadership skills, and I have successfully done that. There’s still a lot more to learn about leading, but I’m glad I get to learn with my specific class. I like to believe that I’m a fun person, and journalism is a class where I can let that out. I love the diverse personalities, and how we all get along and have built such a close family environment. Truly, no other class is like journalism. We get to be creative, and everyone has a different idea, so we get to see how all of these ideas work together. It’s a really creative and fun environment, but we all challenge each other to go beyond our best abilities. This is a really fun class, and to anyone who is interested in journalism, I recommend joining next year. There are so many great opportunities, even if you aren’t interested in journalism. I’ve grown as a person because of journalism and everyone including me. Its a really great class to better understand yourself and the world around you.
